Monster Almanac β’ About the Project
About Monster Almanac
Monster Almanac is a searchable bestiary and tabletop RPG toolkit built around Dungeons & Dragons 5e. The project started with a simple goal: make it easier for game masters to find the right monster quickly. Over time, it grew into a wider set of tools that support encounter prep, NPC creation, terrain workflows, and hero generation.
The idea behind the site is practical rather than ornamental. During session prep and live play, game masters often need speed, clarity, and usable connections between different resources. Monster Almanac is designed to reduce friction between βI need an ideaβ and βI have something I can actually use at the table.β
What the project is trying to solve
Faster monster discovery
Searchable browsing by name, challenge rating, creature type, and environment makes it easier to find monsters that fit a session instead of scanning blindly through lists.
Better prep flow
Encounters, terrain prompts, NPC generation, and hero support are meant to work together as one toolkit instead of isolated utilities.
More usable outputs
The site is built around practical use cases such as portraits, tokens, chatbot prompts, and VTT-friendly workflows that help transform raw ideas into playable resources.

Who Monster Almanac is for
Game masters
The site is primarily built for dungeon masters and other GMs who need speed, reference value, and connected tools for prep and live play.
Players and creators
Players, worldbuilders, solo gamers, and content creators can also use the site for character inspiration, visual generation workflows, and faster access to fantasy resources.
How the site is built
Monster Almanac combines structured monster data with searchable navigation and generator-style tools. The project is developed to keep practical utility at the center: fast filtering, clear browsing, strong internal linking, and reusable outputs that help at the table instead of just looking interesting on the page.
As the site grows, the goal is to keep expanding both depth and usefulness. That means improving monster coverage, strengthening tool integration, and making each major page helpful even before a user interacts with the generator itself.
